HELENAVEEN

The campsite that offers an oasis of peace and space is located against the largest Peel area in the Netherlands with 900 ha of swamp and forests. The village of Helenaveen is located 2km from us and sits the corner of the municipality of Deurne on the border of Brabant and Limburg. Here, in 1853, the Griendt brothers bought 600 hectares of raised bog to dig peat for the furnaces of their brick factory in Den Bosch. The Helenavaart canal and the village are named after van Griendt's wife 'Helena Panis'.

The Helenavaart, with the beautiful oak avenues and the side channels, are still visible in their full glory even after all these years. In this historical village, where some beautiful buildings remind us of the previous busy working history, peace and quiet  has completely returned.

Not far away from your site you will find the Peel with its beautiful areas and its countless mysteries. You can visit the place where a peeler found the famous Golden Helmet on June 23, 1910. There are also countless beautiful walking routes, with varied flora and fauna and old sheepfolds. Enjoy watching an early solitary hovering hawk in search of breakfast, the deer peacefully sauntering against the sunrise or the bright red setting sun that seems to kiss this beautiful location like a warm blanket.

Helenaveen the GREENEST Village in the Netherlands!

Mobirise

On 7th October 2019, Helenaveen was named the Greenest Village of the Netherlands during the annual competition of Entente Florale. The jury took the degree of cooperation between the municipality, the village council and residents into account. The jury report also stated that Helenaveen has been transformed from a purely agricultural environment into a tourist recreational area. "In addition, the village has a beautiful street scene with well-tended gardens. The municipality took a unique lead in participating in Entente Florale, but the involvement of the residents of Helenaveen was impressive, "said the jury report. Helenaveen left Ameland, Borger, Lottum and Nieuw Vossemeer behind.

Helenaveen can now participate in the next round: the greenest village in Europe.
